Recorded by Tony Christie and released in the UK in 1971, Amarillo was a hit across Europe. Despite being written by two Americans and its subject an American city, it remains largely unknown in the US! In 2005 it became popular again thanks to Peter Kay and the many spin-off comic renditions.
